Remembering your “Why
so You’re not Screaming, “Why!”
March 21, 2024
In those moments when my inner voice is screaming “Why!” it is critical to revisit and remember my why.
In those moments of distress, confusion or disillusionment, what if we remembered:
-Why we are doing this
-What our aim is
-Why it’s critical
-What we are hoping to impact
-Why it is necessary
When I forget my why and begin crying out why, these statements become criticisms and judgments that manifest as questions:
-Why are we doing this?
-What is our aim?
-Why is this critical?
-What impact were we hoping to have?
-Why is this necessary?
When I am centering myself in purpose instead of my fears and frustrations, I am more clear in my intention, powerful in my impact, and grounded in peace.
I must also remember that there are appropriate times to ask myself these questions. I should ask at the beginning of any effort to ensure I have the clarity I need to execute.
I can also ask during the process because it can be an inquiry of refinement.
However, if I am crying out, “Why,” if I am crying, there is an opportunity for me to look inward and rule out:
-being fearful that I am not equipped for the task
-that the goal or will has changed
-that another strategy is needed
-the wrong people are seated in the right seats on the bus; conversely that the right people are seated in the wrong seats on the bus
-that I am on the wrong bus
-that I don’t want to take this trip anymore
Either way, there is some value in revisiting my intention and grounding my perspective in purpose.
I think my work here is to revisit and remember the “why” that has brought me to this moment.
Happy 2024!
