A Tool in the Wrong Hands
June 19, 2024
In recent weeks, my yearlong commitment to reflection has led to spiritual growth. As a person of faith, my spirituality is one of the most sacred areas of my life and my place of greatest strength. While I hesitate to share from this sacred place, I am reminded that my faith says that we “overcome by the word of our testimony.”
In keeping with my commitment to overcoming challenge, today I am sharing this reflection:
A Tool in the Wrong Hands
Have you ever teetered between silence and frustration because you feared others were taking credit for your ideas or efforts?
Was your resolve to stop sharing cause you felt used?
Believing that you could effectively contribute to the effort, did you grow frustrated as the process evolved without your contribution?
If you have ever teetered in this way, you have an opportunity to look inward.
As a strategist, systems thinker and visionary, I thought my greatest gift was my thinking. As someone from humble beginnings, conditioned to undervalue my worth, I frequently worried about people taking credit for my ideas and work.
I now know the greater gift is my ability to freely give to my call, stand in purpose and trust that all things are working for my good.
As a person of faith, I now know that my gifts come through me. They are not of me. My promotion, opportunities, and results have all been tied to my willingness to freely share my ideas and partner with others.
It is fear that would have us believe that there is no room for others to share in our thinking. It is ego that would compel us to fight for credit over purpose.
It is distraction that would have us believe that others can outdo us at being ourselves, wielding our gifts or delivering on our purpose.
Just as only Moses could wield the staff to be what was needed for his calling, only you can wield your thinking, gifts, or tools in the manner that you are called to do.
With this knowledge, commit to the power of giving yourself over to purpose.
