Halfway There!
July 1, 2024
Today is an incredible day! It’s the official signaling of the halfway point! For some, it’s the beginning of a new fiscal year. Either way, it is a great time to celebrate, concentrate and reinvigorate if needed.
If you are operating from a calendar year, it is a great time to celebrate all that you have accomplished thus far. With a commitment to living a more conscious life, I encourage you to:
1. Revisit your New Year’s resolutions to celebrate the ways you are honoring those commitments to transformation.
2. Review all that you have achieved so far, including any incremental progress and gains in each area of your life: career, education, family, relationships, physical health, mental health, finances and other areas.
3. Celebrate that you are still here no matter what the first half of the year has thrown your way.
4. Celebrate the ways you have contributed to a brighter future for your family, the community, your relationships and yourself. This list includes things like voting, advocacy and volunteerism.
I am personally celebrating a half year of new initiatives and all of the things that go into a successful year, including collaboration and new partnerships, investment in myself and others, improved communication, the successful completion of annual operations plan, the successful administration of several grants, and the chance to do more!
As I reviewed my “Drive Jar,” a jar of post its highlighting the steps I take towards my goals each week, there were 30+ items in the jar. It included things like launching a blog, establishing a website, and doing my first advertisement. Suffice to say, there is a great personal celebration underway!
This is also a great time to concentrate! Consider concentrating your efforts in the areas where more progress is needed and the areas close to completion. I like the balance of completing goals that can be achieved with a short term focus and the notion of playing the “long game.” Accordingly, I use this time of year to identify a mix of goals that can be completed in the next quarter and 1 or more goals that are slated for completion in the next 48 months. This process ensures that I will have wins by the end of the year with demonstrable progress towards my long term goals.
To aid in building this list, review your resolutions, your work plan, the organization’s operations and strategic plans, your savings and portfolio, and your health goals. Also, consider establishing a family plan for review. Each of these plans or goals are opportunities to concentrate on making tangible progress.
Lastly, I encourage you to reinvigorate! If your focus, vision or efforts have fallen by the wayside, reinvigorate by refocusing, renewing, reestablishing and reprioritizing!
Refocus on the vision you have yourself, your why, and the legacy you hope to leave.
Renew your efforts—go back to the gym, meal planning, the basics or whatever foundational skills are needed to achieve your goals.
Reestablish the habits, support and thinking you leveraged when you were making progress. This could include reconnecting with your support group and/or accountability partner. It could entail returning to mediation, yoga, or maintaining a daily to do list. I may also mean being more conscious of your decision making and patterns. It is critical to ensure that the boundaries, balances and balls you maintain serve you!
Finally, reprioritize YOU—your needs, your desires, and your vision. You won’t get your first things if they are consistently at the bottom of the list or out of sight and out of mind. Use this halfway point to make it the rest of way!
Now that we are halfway there, let’s make it the rest of the way together!
Happy 2024!
